ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

We recognize a healthy community is one where individuals have genuine opportunities for earned income. That income must also remain in our community through additional opportunities for local spending that creates increased economic opportunities for others.

Create with, not for

Co-creating economic opportunities with people and families in Chicora and other historically Black neighborhoods in the area is essential. In the past, Metanoia funded a minority contractor training academy, operated a neighborhood farmer’s market, and partnered with our local food bank to build a production kitchen for job training.

Currently, we are focusing on strengthening a multigenerational pipeline of entrepreneurs through support for the Youth Entrepreneurship Center and incubator spaces for several Black entrepreneurs along Reynolds Avenue, including Daddy’s Girls Bakery. We recently completed a jobs initiative that created 50+ full-time, permanent jobs for low-income individuals in partnership with The Urban Electric Company. The goal of our economic development projects is to create opportunities for local residents to build and sustain their income while creating a healthy neighborhood economy.

We are here to co-create opportunities with our neighbors through highly collaborative processes, as opposed to merely doing things for them.
